Senior Electrical / ICA Engineer - UK

Job Description
Glan Agua UK are now seeking an immediate position for a Senior Electrical / ICA Engineer.

Working with the Design Manager and MEICA Project Manager, you would be a key member of the Design Team during the detailed design phase and continue to provide engineering support during the construction phase. 

The ideal candidates will have proven experience of electrical and ICA design at a senior level in the UK water and wastewater sector coupled with a degree level or HNC level qualification in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Instrumentation and Control Engineering. The preferred candidate will have a proven track record of project delivery on medium to large sized water and/or waste water infrastructure projects. They will be expected to take responsibility for critical elements of the outline and detailed electrical and ICA design right through the process stream including raw water pumping, chemical mixing and dosing, filtration (DAF / RGF / membrane), disinfection and off-site pumping.

Key capabilities as follows;
• Proven track record in delivering process plant design in the UK water and wastewater industry
• Ability to work effectively within the Glan Agua design and construction team, working closely with the Design Manager and the Project Manager. Furthermore, coordination and liaison with the wider Glan Agua Design Team both within the UK and in the remote offices is essential, as well as with the Client’s co-located engineering team
• Ability to understand supply chain package plant design and integrate these designs as required into the overall design package
• Use an innovative approach to problem solving and always seek to challenge standard solutions
• Ability to generate electrical and ICA design outputs including cable calcs (working knowledge of Amtech required), electrical layout diagrams, cable block diagrams, loop diagrams, cable schedules, control philosophies, URS and FDS as needed
• Experience as checker / reviewer / approver of design documents at all stages of submission
• Provide assistance and guidance to project delivery at all levels as required, from producing supply chain tender enquiry specifications to providing on-site support to the construction team
• Attendance and participation at HAZOPs
• Ability to carry out research into latest industry practices and solutions and to take full consideration of TOTEX in design decision making
• Ability to integrate Health, Safety and Environmental constraints into design, and to fully understand the Principal Designers obligations in these areas

Senior Commissioning Engineer

Glan Agua Ltd are a progressive organisation in water and wastewater services and are looking to recruit a Senior Commissioning Engineer to work on projects located primarily in the Munster / South Leinster Regions. Due to continued success in the Irish Business, the company is expanding with a number of dynamic and exciting roles.

Duties will include:

  • Initial power-up of MCC’s, rotation checks for motors and I/O point to point checks.
  • Setting up of instrumentation and scaling of instruments back to main control system.
  • Uploading of first draft of PLC/HMI code and de-bugging as necessary.
  • Troubleshooting of equipment, instrumentation and processes.
  • Working with Process Engineers on process optimisation and continuous improvement to the water/waste water treatment plant.
  • Working with design teams in the application of process and control solutions.
  • Liaising between site engineering and management staff.
  • Adherence to all H&S legislation, documentation and procedures.
  • Completion of Commissioning Documentation on-site and return to Head Office.
  • Co-ordination of project close-out stages including handover to the end user or Operations Department.
Qualifications / Experience:
  • Applicable Electrical Qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably in the Water & Wastewater sector.
  • Good working and process knowledge of the water and waste water sector.
  • Capability to make control programme PLC and HMI modifications desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent planning, organisational, training, teamwork, problem resolution skills
  • Excellent literacy, numeric and IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office packages
  • Full, clean driving license

Senior Proposals Engineer

The senior proposals engineer will work closely with the Proposal Manger of the organisation to compile and deliver competitive tenders and cost proposals for both the municipal and industrial water services sector. You will be liaising and working within tender design teams, contracts team, suppliers, vendors, subcontractors, and procurement teams to ensure that competitive tenders are delivered within schedule and in accordance with the Instructions to tenders. This role will also involve the prequalification process and ensuring that the companies brand continues to develop within its operation sector in Ireland and the UK, and exceed the strategic business targets of the company.

Duties - Tender Process:
In conjunction with the Tender Bid Manager, take ownership of technical designs and submissions working closely with Process and MEICA Design teams, be responsible for the selection of engineering solutions resulting in competitive tenders. You will be required to compile costings, commercial discussions with key vendors, ensuring all necessary drawings and technical documents are prepared to the highest standards. It is expected that full involvement in the tender process will be required including, but not limited to;

  • Identification of key projects and opportunities, tracking, liaison with key clients, and targeting these opportunities
  • Evaluation and Review of Tender Documents and identification of major technical and commercial risks related with the Tenders
  • Playing an integral part in the Process, Mechanical, Structural and Electrical Design Process, in conjunction with the design resources within the organisation. Including preparation of Process Flow Diagrams, P&ID’s, technical process justifications, MEICA designs and developing tender technical submission to comply with the requirements of the Tenders.
  • Preparation of tender development programmes to ensure adequate management of the tender process with the Proposals Manager
  • Sourcing and Obtaining competitive MEICA costing’s and dealing with vendors,
  • Evaluation and selection of suitable equipment and vendors including sourcing alternative vendors,
  • Managing civil costing’s and ensuring that all risks are clearly identified and that costs and responsibilities are clearly apportioned and documented and agree Program of works with civil partners.
  • Adhere to all internal Governance procedures.
  • Completion of non-technical aspects of tender submission including (BOQ, Cash flow, Day rates,  Quality section of submission, H&S component, Tender Program etc.),
  •  If successful Tender hand over or unsuccessful tender close report

Skills and attributes

• Be Chartered status (or similar) or be striving to be become chartered with support from the company.

Project Managers

Project Managers; Water and Waste Water Projects;

The ideal candidates will have proven experience of working for a recognised Main Contractor with experience of the design and construction of Water / Waste Water projects, coupled with a degree level qualification in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. The preferred candidate will have a proven track record of project delivery on large to medium sized water and waste water infrastructure projects. The will be expected to integrate the project team from design stage, through to construction, commissioning, and ultimately had over to operations and expected to liaise with the Client on a day-to-day basis and manage all aspects of the Contract(s).

Key capabilities are as follows;

  • Experience in water and wastewater treatment plant design, construction and commissioning, with particular emphasis on mechanical and electrical elements.
  • Knowledge of FIDIC Conditions of Contracts beneficial
  • Min 5 years plus experience
  • Ability to liaise with clients
  • Contract awareness
  • Commercial negotiations with key suppliers and sub-contractors, management of the supply chain on multiple projects
  • Manage sub-contractors including the commissioning contractor
  • Prepare and manage programs using MS project and Primavera.
  • Monitor progress against the program and issue progress reports.
  • Produce look ahead programs to assist production.
  • Prepare valuations for submittal to the client on a monthly basis.
The current project portfolio include Contracts ≥ €10 million euros on a design, build, operate and maintain basis. They are an immediate start and would typically be based in our office in Loughrea initially, but the contracts are located nationwide.

Project Engineers

Project Engineers; Water and Waste Water projects;

Glan Agua Ltd are seeking experienced water and waste water project engineers to work within our Project teams for design and construction of water and wastewater installations throughout Ireland. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years specific and relevant experience in the design, construction, installation and/or commissioning of water and wastewater facilities. The candidate must be degree qualified in the fields of civil or mechanical engineering.

Key requirements;

  • Support the Project Manager
  • Have working knowledge of AutoCAD and capable of drawings for construction and to coordinate between contractors to ensure services fit.
  • Prepare as-built drawings for inclusion in the Operations & Maintenance manual.
  • Source suppliers, obtain quotes and submit successful suppliers for engineering approval.
  • Monitor and expedite equipment deliveries.
  • Prepare & keep up to date the delivery schedule to control deliveries
  • Manage sub-contractors including the commissioning contractor
  • Prepare programs using MS project.
  • Monitor progress against the program and issue progress reports.
  • Produce look ahead programs to assist production.
  • Prepare method statements and risk assessments (with construction team) for production activities
  • Prepare test packs for recording the completion of systems
  • Carry out Quality Control thru inspections and snagging
  • Carry out document control, recording & transmitting information & drawings using the document control system
  • Compile an Operations & Maintenance manual for handover to the client/operations team.
  • Maintain a variation log detailing changes in scope.
  • Prepare valuations for submittal to the client on a monthly basis
