Our Contracts Director John Fox, and PCI Manager Gary Lavelle were on-site in Castletownbere yesterday to carry out a Senior Safety Management Tour. This project is being delivered as part of the ECI programme in collaboration with Irish Water.
During the site visit all interactions with staff were carried out with social distancing measures in place, ensuring that all safety measures with regard to Covid-19 were adhered too.
The project involves construction of a new wastewater treatment plant at Drom South, as well as a long marine outfall pipeline that will safely discharge treated wastewater to the south of Castletownbere town. Construction of new sewer pipelines, rising mains and pumping stations are also currently under construction and these new pipelines will transport wastewater to and from the new wastewater treatment plant.
The new plant and associated infrastructure will ensure compliance as per the wastewater discharge regulations, and will improve water quality in Bantry Bay and protect recreational waters for sports activities, as well as protecting the integrity of the local marine environment.
The Castletownbere environs offers some of the most picturesque scenery Glan Agua/MEIC have had the pleasure of being involved in over the years. Glan Agua would like to thank the local community for their support during the construction works, and the collaborative aspects of the ECI platform, including community engagement has resulted in the project execution in a timely fashion and its great to see the progress achieved on-site in such a short time-frame.
