Courtmacsherry Timoleague Sewerage Scheme

The project included the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant at Cullenagh, Courtmacsherry to serve a population equivalent of 2,500. The works included new pumping stations at Courtmacsherry and Timoleague; 750m of new sewer in Timoleague and upgrades to the existing sewer network, in some very difficult ground conditions, requiring considerable temporary works to achieve the project outcomes. The new wastewater treatment plant and network have all been designed to accommodate an increase in the local population into the future.

This project was delivered as part of Irish Water’s investment plan, which prioritises key outcomes such as leakage, water supply zones removed from the EPA’s Remedial Action List.

Steps

  • Construction of a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at Cullenagh, Courtmacsherry that will serve a population equivalent of 2,500 from both villages
  • Construction of a new pumping station at Timoleague
  • Sewer pipelines to bring untreated wastewater to the WWTP and treated wastewater to the outfall pipe
  • The existing outfall pipe will safely discharge the treated wastewater to the Argideen River
